Meet Morgan...It's hard to believe that this beautiful, happy little girl has cancer. But, she does and it's called Ewing's sarcoma.  She was diagnosed June 12,2007.  It is a pretty rare cancer with approx 200-300 children a year nationally diagnosed.  It is more common in boys aged 10-20.  So, Morgan having this at age 6 is very rare... We were told that less than 5 children a year her age, nationwide, are diagnosed per year.  Ewing's Sarcoma is a bone tumor.  The tumor is in her right humerous (upper arm) and it is localized there.  We were very fortunate that is has not spread
anywhere else.  It is known to metastisize to the lungs first.  But Morgan's shows no signs of spreading.

Friday, October 19th  Morgan is starting day 3 of her 5 days of chemo.  She is handling it extremely well.  She has not been feeling sick at all.  Playing in the playroom with kids she has met here at the hospital passes the time quickly.  She started physical therapy yesterday on her arm.  They have her just moving at the elbow.  She cannot move her shoulder for at least another 3 weeks.  She did very well for the first day.  It was sore but she did everything they asked her to do without a complaint.  If everything goes as planned we expect to go home on Monday.
SURGERY UPDATE
Monday October 1,2007  Morgan is HOME!!!

Surgery went extremely well. The surgeons said it could not have gone any better for Morgan.  The tumor did not affect as much muscle as Dr. Durrani origionally thought.  He removed the tumor and all affected tissue in less than 2 hours.  He came out to talk to us and felt he could use the origional surgical plan of the expandable, magnetic prosthesis.  This will allow Morgan's arm to be lengthened periodically as she grows by using an external magnetic without additional surgery.  Along with the prosthesis, cadaver bone was used so there was no need to use her fibula (leg bone).  This cut her surgery time in half, six hours instead of the expected twelve.  Morgan was doing so well that it was not necessary for her to go to ICU.  She was taken from recovery to a regular room.  She is a very brave little girl and everyone is so proud of how well she is doing. She likes having control of her morphine pump.  She developed a slight fever over night, but the doctor says not to be concerned.  It is normal to develop a fever right after surgery.  We were able to see pictures of the prosthesis.  It is pretty amazing to that in her little arm.  She truly will be a "bionic woman" now.  She should be able to go home in a week.  The plan is she needs to be back into chemo two weeks from yesterday.  She will have a rough couple of weeks but she is so happy that the tumor is out of her arm.  Thank you for all of your amazing prayers,  God was definitely listening yesterday.  We couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Monday, September 24, 2007   Surgery is now scheduled for this Thursday, September 27.  Morgan's counts are all high enough and the surgeons are happy.
Friday September 21st 8:30 AM  Surgery is being postponed.  After Morgan's platelet transfusion her count did not stay high enough that the surgeons were comfortable with.  Her surgery is going to be too long and involved, they felt it was not worth the risk of bleeding too much to proceed.  She will get a platelet booster over the next few days and the surgery will be rescheduled for next week.  We will keep you posted.
Friday, September 21,2007 Today is surgery day.  Please send your prayers.
Thursday, September 6, 2007  Morgan is back home.
Tuesday, September 4, 2007  Morgan is in the hospital for 5th chemotherapy treatment.
